Safeguarding
The United Kingdom Cube Association CIC (UKCA) is a non-profit organization run by a group of volunteers to provide people with opportunities to compete officially in Speedcubing competitions. The competitions are attended by adults and young people (under the age of 18) and will usually occur with two-day events on weekends.
UKCA is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people under the age of 18 who attend our activities. Our Safeguarding Policy outlines the measures we take to prevent and respond to concerns of harm or potential harm to children and young people.
The UKCA organizes speedcubing events on the basis that everyone attending should have the opportunity to have fun and enjoy themselves in an environment that keeps them safe from harm. Whilst we aim to ensure the safety of everyone attending, the UKCA and its volunteers do not act as parents/guardians, and therefore parents/guardians of young people are at all times responsible for those under 18. The UKCA is never providing teaching, care or supervision of children and young people.
If you feel that a young person may be at risk of harm but are not sure, then inform one of the Safeguarding team immediately. They will offer advice and take appropriate action. If there is reasonable belief that a child or young person is in immediate danger, the Designated Safeguarding Lead will contact the Police or local authority safeguarding team. Information will be shared with statutory agencies only if necessary to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child or young person.
During a UKCA competition, the listed delegates at the competition are the appropriate members to inform. You can find the list of delegates on the competition webpage, which will have their photo attached. Outside of a UKCA competition, contact Bertie Longden, the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the UKCA.
